Enhancing the quality of
life in our communities,
ADM strives to make a positive difference in the communities where we work and live. The ADM Cares Strong Communities component focuses on programs and initiatives that improve the quality of life today, as we help to create a better future. Our local managers play an important role by identifying local needs that might be addressed through ADM Cares.
Special attention is placed on educational initiatives for children and young adults, as evidenced in 2010 by a $250,000 donation given to Jobs for America’s Graduates and a $1.3 million grant to support public schools in and around our headquarters city of Decatur, Illinois.
In addition, to strengthen relief services available to people in need in ADM communities and elsewhere around the world, the company gave $300,000 to the American Red Cross in 2010, including $125,000 to local ARC chapters in ADM communities, $100,000 to the ARC International Response Fund and $75,000 to the ARC Disaster Relief Fund.
And once again this past year, ADM Cares was a major sponsor of Living Lands and Waters, an organization that promotes the health and vitality of inland waterways on which our business relies. Since our collaboration began, ADM’s U.S. colleagues have devoted thousands of volunteer hours to removing debris from major rivers. And in the 2011 calendar year, ADM will provide funding to support both the organization’s ongoing river cleanup work and to expand a floating classroom program, in which a barge made from reclaimed and renewable materials serves as a facility for students and teachers to study environmental issues associated with large rivers.
